People are still need to be accompanied in order to manage the environment. It cannot be done only by the government. Therefore, the government should be able to do partnerships with communities and enterprises.

The ecobrick workshop conducted by Greenwave NGO was being very interested by local communities especially schools. It was proven by the unexpected level of students’ attendance. Hundreds of students which were accompanied by the teachers had followed the training and learning process enthusiastically. ”

The event was attended by about two hundred people, consisted of environmental activists, students and companion teachers from eight schools in Pacitan regency:

  1. Elementary School of Pacitan
  2.  Elementary School of Mentoro

An ecobrick is a plastic bottle stuffed solid with non-biological waste to create a reusable building block. Ecobricks are used to make modular furniture, garden spaces and full scale buildings such as schools and houses. Ecobricks are a collaboration powered technology that provides a zero-cost solid waste solution for individuals, households, schools and communities.

To make an Ecobrick, attendees took a plastic bottle or container of some sort including paper or laminate milk cartons. They put and compressed a whole bunch of random everyday plastic materials inside of it, layer by layer. They used a stick to compress it. Completed Ecobricks should be so densely stuffed that one can stand on top of them without deformation. The ideal ecobrick weight for a 600 ml mineral water bottle is about 220 grams.

“If once per week in the Car Free Day event, 100 children make 100 ecobricks weighing 300 grams per bottle, it can reduce waste disposal to the landfill by 30 kg of garbage.  It can reduce the risk of environmental pollution it the case if the waste was thrown away carelessly. If it done every week with more participants and simultaneously, we can calculate how much our contribution in the effort of environmental pollution prevention. By God’s Wills, the Pacitan Clean 2025 will be achieved.

In the future, the government, society and the business world must be united to make the environment better” Rahadi concludes.
